Toronto Police Launches Social Media

Toronto Police Service Social Media Launch

Before you question why we would even attend a  milestone event such as the Toronto Police Service Social Media Launch Press Conference, think on this: Smartphone usage among the Toronto Police Social Media Department.

As entities start to adopt Social Media into their existing enterprise, more and more individuals, who head up their online communications teams are paying more attention to smartphones. Just recently, I was asked by Constable Scott Mills a.k.a. @GraffitiBMXCop, ”What Android phone should I get?”. @GraffitiBMXCop has been active on the Social Media environment and is one of the pinnacle forces when it comes to adoption of this new reach within the Toronto Police Services. His online and offline relationships with the various communities in the Toronto and surrounding areas has helped bring a more positive and welcoming image for the department as a whole.

Blackberry and iPhone devices were still dominant during this press conference with perhaps only 4 known individuals using Android phones. Even more important than Android is the usage of mobile devices as a way to do business within enterprises such as this.

We were very happy to have been invited to this event. It certainly provides us the connection to a community in where Android can readily be accepted.

Congratulations to the Toronto Police Services in using Social Media to help bridge their efforts and those of their communities, together. You can view photos of the event on flickr.
