Mobile Hackathon 2010, Toronto

The 2nd Annual Mobile Innovation Week here in Toronto kicks off with a Mobile Hackathon!

Right in the heart of Toronto’s downtown and in a corner of OCAD (Ontario College of Art & Design), three groups of mobile developers diligently work on creating apps that will be part of Toronto’s Intelligent Cities initiative (perhaps). The event is a two day affair and aims at connecting mobile developers in the Toronto and GTA.

Interesting is the discussions around community / local empowerment using social media and open data. The developers are most certainly city focused and social aware. Some of the key words brought up are #healthcare, #transportation #fixmystreet #fixmycity.

There is a small group of interested devs for Android and as I sit among them as I type. My purpose here was to locate android developers and to get a feel for what apps or projects were out there. Heading up the event was Jason Silva, Organizer. I managed to catch Jason for a little impromptu interview.
