Brussels Joins the Android Movement!

Brussels is the next city to join the Android Movement! Hosting their first ever DroidCon (Android Conference) on April 2, 2010 at Living Tomorrow, their aim (like all other DroidCon’s) is to gather enthusiastic android developers, fans and those in niche industries that would like to know more about, and find ways in how to integrate “anything android” into their current business models, road maps, etc ..

If you would like to attend (and I really suggest that you do) DroidCon Belgium, then please register here.

You can also follow them on twitter to get the latest updates.

And while we’re on the topic of up and coming DroidCon’s, don’t forget to register for DroidCon Berlin!
This will be the 2nd DroidCon in Berlin, (The first one and first EVER in the world, took place last November 2009 in Berlin). If you are an android developer and especially if you’re someone who wants to know more about the Android Community and what great developments are taking place, then attending a DroidCon near you is a must. Most of the success that takes place at these events, is not so much the sponsors that back up and believe in the value that these events have, but from the people that attend. People like you, who bring with them, their great ideas and innovative concepts. People that ask questions that stretch the imagination and really, it’s like-minded people that get together, collaborate and share and then that’s when magic starts to happen.

If it weren’t for the interesting people that come together to part-take in events such as DroidCon, then the Android Community and Movement would not be what it is today, an enriched culture of uber geeks that, through their diversity and idea sharing, are able to contribute to an empowered cause, that will change the world, enabling societies to another level of communication.

Take a look at this video on last year’s DroidCon in Berlin.

Opening Day for the HTC Desire (X06HTC)

While our tech friends in Silicon Valley still float amidst the vast expanse of the 5th dimension (astral plane), our Japanese friends are hustling about, doing video demo’s, writing articles (of the likes I cannot understand) and tweeting about the HTC Desire (XO6HTC). It’s “open day”! (I’m wondering if Google Translate really meant to say “Opening Day” or “Open House Day”). From what I can make out, SoftBank Mobile just celebrated their 30th anniversary and during their “Open Day” announced and showed the new HTC Desire. But don’t quote me on that, find a Japanese person to translate the above links for you. Just saying.

The much awaited HTC Desire is said to already be available March 29th, just one day away, (as this source states) in the U.K. with T-Mobile.

HTC has set up a pre-register site offering a FREE Prize draw for 1 of 10 HTC Desires if they sign up before 31.03.2010.

Let’s not be any more confused … these days, Android phones are launching left right and center and their already first launched versions are coming out with new updated ones. Indeed, HTC’s Desire/Eris was already available last November 2009, states side (528 MHz Qualcomm, 320 x 480 capacitative screen, 512 MB ROM / 288 MB RAM, on CDMA. This new HTC Desire, which was shown last February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is the newer, sleekier and “more under the hood” version – sporting Google Android 2.1 with an amazingly fast 1.5 MHz Qualcomm processor, 3.7-inch AMOLED touch-sensitive screen with 480 X 800 WVGA resolution and the Sense UI updated with the Friend Stream. Here’s one guy’s take on the new HTC Desire, after he managed to get his hands on it last Friday at a Pub!

And, what Engadget previously reported and showed off, with, as always, fantastic photos, apparently, the HTC Desire does come with a sleek aluminum option. A colour I would much prefer touting when it comes to gadgets, rather than the “I don’t even know what this colour is” Nexus One.

I think what confuses some people (and even me) is that different launch dates for phone one in different parts of the world. Other regions may not see a new Android Phone until 3-6 months. And if that’s not hard to keep up with, often the names may change and even some of the specs. So, when this *same* phone gets launched elsewhere, it almost makes you want to think that they are talking about a competely different and new phone, since their timings are spread apart and often the way the same phone is marketed has a slight twist in features focus.

Currently, there is no definite source telling when the new HTC Desire will come to the States and Canada. It was reported a few weeks ago that Verizon would be selling the HTC Desire but then just a few days ago, that report got stumped by another one confirming that there still is no confirmation.

Here’s a video taken from a demo of the HTC Desire (XO6HTC) in Japan. I’m not sure if this is the same phone that will come out tomorrow in the U.K.

Anyone want to buy a AIX 2800G4 HT?

No purchase is a secret. Well, maybe a few certain  x-rated unmentionables or certain silicon pieces  meant to be

One purchase in question was that of one AIX 2800G4 HT, 11×4 inch MOCVD tool. So I ask you, what would you do with one AIX 2800G4 HT, 11×4 inch MOCVD tool. First of all, what the heck is it?

Here’s a photo I borrowed using Google’s image search:

Actually, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) located in Freiburg, Germany ordered the AIX 2800G4 HT, 11×4 inch MOCVD tool. Apparently,  they will be using the reactor for GaN (Gallium Nitride) on SiC (silicon carbide) for high power, high frequency applications to enable commercialization of GaN devices in the near future.

It was said that the order was placed in the fourth quarter of 2009, just one quarter behind Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation‘s (MCC’s) order in the third quarter of 2009. MCC requested their order in a 42×2 inch wafer configuration and will be used for the production of InGaN (indium gallium nitride) – based white UHB (Ultra-High Bright) LEDs (light emitting diodes). MCC plans to start rolling out world-class white LEDs for display backlighting, solid-state lighting and other leading edge applications. Yay! More cool LEDs.

Closely following the LED industry, I caught the news from a tweet from @ledinside. Link to their article is here.

LEDs, and more commonly OLEDs (organic light emitting diodes) and AMOLEDs (active matrix organic light emitting diode) are hot topics associated with mobile device screens. A few Android phones are touting AMOLED screen displays. In fact, there was an article that put a few people’s “boxers” in an uproar, so much so that they had to write a response article here.

And that’s why I am writing this post. The LED industry will boom in 2010 with a ton of amazing products that will be utilized and enjoyed by all, whether conscious of it or not.

Did you hear about the augmented contact lenses with 100′s of LEDs?

I talked about it in the following youtube video:

Way to go, GO!

Announced today, GO, Malta’s leading telecommunications provider has chosen Blueslice Network’s CSP 3000™ (Converged Subscriber Platform), the industry-leading, evolved Subscriber Data Management (eSDM) platform, to replace legacy Home Location Register systems.Blueslice Networks will also provide the necessary HSS, AAA and Subscriber Repository building blocks for GO’s converged services strategy.

You can view the press release here.

With Blueslice Network’s flexible and scalable subscriber management platform, all front end applications (ngHLR 3000™, HSS 3000™ and the AAA 3000™) hosted, will enable Blueslice Network’s CSP 3000™ to merge and seamlessly share subscriber profiles across GO’s GSM, UMTS, IMS (fixed and mobile), as well as 4G (LTE, WiMAX) networks.

With the Blueslice SDM solution, GO will be able to deliver on its “converged services” business strategy to increase customer stickiness as well as to change the customer experience altogether,” said Joseph Bugeja, Chief Technical Officer, GO, “This project will be an essential part of GO’s wider strategic transition towards a converged business entity, with an integrated network, operating systems and processes.”

So what does all this really mean?

Think apps. Think mobile advertising. Think downloadable anything. Think niche online store. Think (insert word here) Market. Most of all, think Android.

Data management has always been key. SUBSCRIBER data management – even bettter.

Someone should approach GO and propose a sweet, no fail, no brainer deal. Just saying.
